Day Seventy One: Out of Secrets

Out Of Secrets

NPR has a program called "This I Believe", it's a collection of essays written by people from different walks of life. One of the essays, The Presumption of Decency, has been on my mind for a few weeks. This essay of belief asks that we assume the best from people, rather than the worst. The guy who cut you off in traffic may be a doctor on her way to an emergency, the clerk who was cruel to you may have an ill parent on their mind. The assumption is that these people are not jerks, but good people. I am trying my best to follow this belief, to presume better of people. I think, in the end, this gentler judgment would be as good for my mind as it would for others.
